Nuremberg

 Alison was in "recovery mode"
So off I went on the tour.
Nuremberg is where Hitler did a lot of his famous events.
This was his unfinished Colosseum
It was built of brick but clad in granite & was intended
to have a cantilevered roof.
Fortunately for the architects the war was lost before it was
finished! The roof wouldn't have worked...

The granite exterior, the steel & glass arrow
through the outside to the inside. It has the history of Nazism
& is "transparent" so doesn't hide the truth.

Just because !!!

This is the Zeppelin Fields...
Where Hitler held his much publicised
show of strength.
The Porticos down the sides were destroyed.
Megalomania at it's extreme...

Our guide was fantastic & very passionate about
"The Truth" of these horrors.

The Zeppelin Fields are now used for recreation,
motor sport & concerts..
This is now the grid for the Nuremberg DTM race.

The Court House where the Nuremberg Trials were held.

Then up to the old fortress.
The entry to the fort was never breached.
You had to turn left at the end of the draw bridge.
No battering rams..

Over the moat first,
No water now.

Then if they did breach the door...
burning oil would have been poured down on them
through the holes...

If they got through that then they would
 have been showered by arrows..
Cunning Buggers these Franconians !!!

View over the old city to the new.

Beautiful old buildings outside the fortress.

The magnificent fountain & chapel behind in the square.

The detail is remarkable, & the fact it survived the bombing
was because it had a bunker built around it.

Beaut details again.

This spectacular shop in the old town is a hairdresser.

As you can see Nuremberg is very much a University City...
could this be the next Albert Einstein?

I did the same tour. Found it facinating. Laz didn't go. When we were there the market area in front of the incredible church with the clock was filled with stalls.
