Last Day in & on Lake Windermere

Following on from yesterday, we returned to the Museum.

Firstly to look at the Campbell display.

Malcolm Campbell's Bluebird.

A replica of Donald Campbell's K7 Bluebird.

The boat that he died in....

34 years after his death his remains

were buried at Coniston...

Alison wanted this one in...

It seems to me Mr Whoppit 

wasn't lucky this time!!

From memory this was the model I had as a kid.

From there it was down to Lakeside 

for the Boat trip to Ambleside.

We went down on the Swan.

Not quite my normal Figurehead shot...

It was probably a bit cold to get her gear off...

Storrs Hall is now a Hotel

It was owned from 1806-1837 by John Bolton

who was a Liverpool shipping merchant who made his money

dealing with the West Indian slave trade...

Apparently there are still chains in the basement

where they were kept.

There are magnificent old properties all along this section.

The Teal is the sister ship, we came back on her..

she was built in Burrow in Furness , shipped by rail 

and assembled here in 1936.

This gorgeous old steam boat sailed past and gave me 

a toot when he saw me taking his piccie.

Another home now a hotel...

The Boathouse bottom right is now the 

Honeymoon suite...

Nice!

Lunch was at The Wateredge Inn.

Theakston Old Peculiar. 

Alison had The Best Fish Pie ever.

 I have the recipe !!!

I told him we were Aussies, he said ok

because he likes Jimmy Barnes !!!

Lunch was in the window left of the flag pole..

This flew for what seemed like miles beside us.

And so endeth a great day !!
