Civilisation & ABC. Cologne

We sailed through the night & eventually Cologne came into
view through the haze - smog.

The Cologne Cathedral & new Concert Hall.

Now we've made a bit of a feature of "love locks"
This one blew me away....
about 160,000 !
They actually got engineers to check if it was too much weight!
they remove about 200 a week..

On the opposite bank the old Roman Bridge foundation..

Couldn't resist, he had the kids fascinated.

2 original & 3 rebuilt after WW 11.
Can you pick them?

Another Door!

A lovely quit court yard with fountain,
the figures are character from a famous poet's poems.

The clock at the Rathaus.

And opposite showing
Köln peoples irreverence...

The entrance to the Rathaus....( town hall )
beaut detail.

And just out front in the excavations...
Roman Ruins...
Cologne was a very important Roman City.

A nice E36 Convertible with a winter hardtop...
nice!!

A(nother) B(loody)C(athederal)
Now this is SPECIAL it's huge, the detail awesome.
It took 600 plus years to build !!!!!

The Cologners are renowned for being lazy!
So much so they'd put off work & at night
the little folk would come & do it.
This lady snuck out one night to see them,
and because of this they disappeared never to be seen again..

Back to the entrance...

The size is vast..

It apparently took the Builders 570 years to get to 60%
Then the last bit was finished in 30 years by another group!

Treasures throughout..

The controversial modern window.

Mosaics on the floor tell stories

HUGE stained glass.

More treasures.

And outside
doesn't every Cathedral have a camera store??

Looking at the bridge again''
This has the train looking like it rolls up at the Cathedral.

Back on the ship for a rest.
Off to Amsterdam after an all night sail.
