The cruise took us to Greenwich,
home of the Cutty Sark, GMT
and so much more.
This was part of
The Royal Naval College now
a University.
The gates looking out to Greenwich village.
We needed an Asian fix for lunch,
so into the market.
After a quick dim sum & a bit of japanese..
The Cutty Sark, the fastest sailing ship ever.
Primarily built to carry tea from China
then wool from Australia.
The display was good, this is some of the
Capitain's gear.
It wasn't as good as that of
Great Britain in Bristol in my opinion.
The Captain gave a talk...
( of course he was in B&W ! )
Some of the rigging.
The bottom of the hull was sheathed in a copper alloy.
Preventing barnacle growth...
Kept her sailing at top speed.
They also had a fantastic collection
of Figureheads.
A slightly different perspective.
Then I quickly walked to
The Painted Hall.
Spectacular.
For some reason this appeals!
Then a sneaky shot in the Chapel.
( there were exams going on !)
Then onto the National Maritime Museum.
This is Nelson's jacket ,
the white hole below the Epaulet
on his left is the bullet hole from the
shot that killed him.
All in all fantastic collection on stuff !!
Including this enamel telescope.
I couldn't resist putting this in.
Then back up the Thames at almost
high tide.
some of the new city.
Father Thames.
Does this make you think of England?
The Eye from Westminster Bridge..
The stained glass of Westminster Cathedral
with selective colour.
The Regents entrance to Parliament,
note the cat flap lower left.
( well it looks like one to me! )
One of the many statues in the area..
King Richard 1st.
Then 2 sides of Big Ben.
There will be more...
