Day 449 Bundaberg

We hitched up and went investigating before pushing on. Joma had told us about an interesting Museum in Bundaberg..so off we went. The Hinkler Museum was not open until 9 am, so we went for a walk in the Botanical Garden...this garden included a Japanese garden, which Stephen found fascinating....little did he know that better was to come...but that's another story!
There was even a small Steam Train to take you round the gardens....we had to be big kids and have a go...but that was after the Museum.
Bert Hinkler was known for his long distance records in aviation... Bundaberg was where he was born and his first flight was in a glider from Mon Rapose Beach. He later built a house in England and called it the same name. Later the house was dismantled and brought to Bundaberg...we even got to see inside that! This picture is of Stephen lying on the equivalent of his Mum's ironing board that Bert Hinkler used in his first glider. The screen is actually showing a birds eye view of the flight and you can control the direction you go in...very clever.
This is the Ibis sea plane that Hinkler designed by studying the Ibis birds that are plentiful in the Bundaberg area.
