Theatre Royal

The Theatre Royal is the oldest functioning theatre in Australia. Originally opening in 1837, with remodeling in 1856, 1911-12, and a serious restore after the fire in 1983. The basement incorporates the remnants of the original theatre and the tavern commonly known as the Shades.

Richard's father had worked here on the lights in the 60's...reminded me so much of Windsor Theatre.

Doing the tour meant that we got to see all the background stuff.
How different this is to what the audience sees.

The Royal Box, all set up for Elizabeth to visit,
but before she got here she had the call to go back to England on the death of her father....
so it has never been used by her!!

In the Basement, the old dressing rooms...
this was on the wall of the dressing room used by Laurence  Olivier.

The view from the top...lovely tour, very interesting.
