Boat Harbour Beach

We had heard from Mike and Peggy that there was a good free camp, that was not in any of the books.
So we pushed on to Boat Harbour Beach to be greeted by our smiling friends, glasses in hand.
The view above is looking back towards Boat Harbour from Table Cape near Wynyard.

Stephen could not resist the sunrise...

...so enjoy.

Our camp site, with views, toilet, water, rubbish bins,
and even our own small Restaurant the Jolly Roger!
Does not get any better than this.

Montezuma Falls

Montezuma Falls is situated between Zeehan and Rosebery.
Reputed to be one of the largest drops of water in Tassie.

Now this is a three hour walk along an old tram line..
not what I would normally take on but I thought I would give it a go!!

The scenery along the track was to die for...
...and I nearly did!!
This old bridge was one of many.

The Flora both large and small, picturesque.

One of the old mine entrances....very dark and spooky!!

Then the falls..after an hour and a half!!!!!!

The bastard got me on this swing bridge....
I walked on like a Praying Mantis...
this thing is scary, but he did keep his promise and not rock the bridge!!!

Himself at the bottom of the falls..

...all 104 metres of them..

The best we have seen in Tasmania.

Stephen congratulated me on getting there.
I was absolutely buggered...
and I had do it all in reverse..
save the congrats for the end!!!!

On the way out we saw this Micro Montezuma Falls...cute!!

I did make it but boy-o-boy did I hurt...
still it was worth it!!

The Ship That Never Was

The Ship That Never Was
This is the longest continuously running play in Australia.

It tells the "story" of the last ship built by the convicts on Sarah Island.

With the "help" of the audience....

Richard soon to be steering the ship.....

Stephen doing "I'm not sure what!"
Named Billy or was that Silly.

Hmm what can I say!
A great end to the day followed by a nice meal at the Pub.
That was our last night together..supposedly..maybe we will see them before we leave Tassie!!

West Coast Wilderness Railway

The West Coast Wilderness Railway .

We had selected what we thought to be the best weather for the days we were in Strahan
to do the Steam Train run from Strahan to Queenstown.

A little Diesel Fired Steam Train.

Looking down into the gubbins you will notice a toothed cog,
this drives the train through the steep bits.

The early part of the trip was very misty and you could hardly
tell the difference between the water and the sky!

Is everybody happy...say cheese or sex or whatever!

Got you!

Tea coloured creek running into the chocolate coloured King River.

One of the many trestle bridges.

King River Gorge. The train actually runs along this.

At Dubbil Barril they refilled the water.

After a fabulous trip we came into Queenstown,
where Thomas the Tank Engine turned round to be ready for the return trip the next day.
We had to get on a coach to get back!

A map of our trip, an amazing trip that showed us the incredible feats of times gone by.
The motto of the company was.
"LABOR OMNIA VINCIT"
OR
"WE FIND A WAY OR MAKE IT"

Strahan

A quick walk out to Hell's Gate with Richard and Sandra...this was a dash between showers for
"the rain/snow/hail was a coming"

Down on the Ocean Beach. Wild seas to go with the wild sky!!

Walk out to Hogarth Falls. Pretty little spot just outside of Strahan...when the sun shone on this Tea coloured water it produced some incredible colours.

Stephen loved the effect of this and wondered what made it grow this way?

Not huge falls but very nice none the less.
We did wonder why the foam...looked like someone was washing up river!

Yours Truly!

Hail on the roof of Turtle.

And on the ground...can you believe that Strahan had a lightning strike and the power was off all day!

Got one at last...Ocean Trout approx. 2.7 kilo's...caught on the Golf Course...
amazing what happens when you talk to the locals!

Found some photo's.

Kangawallaflop at Edgar Dam.

Our Camp Site..with built in fire, dining room and running water!!!!

The whole set up....and two idiots!!!
At the far left you can just see our toilet block...thanks Hydro for the facilities..

Our evening entertainment... a couple of Spotted Quoll.
Lovely but terrors with the rubbish bins...

Off to Arthur Lake...did not get Titanic or Son of Titanic in as there were white caps on the Lake....
still Stephen had a last try for catching a trout...

On to Derwent Bridge and the Wall in the Wilderness...no photos allowed inside.
Check it out on their Web page.

Then Queenstown...still depressing,
but with the amount of rain some of the roadside falls were fantastic.

Even thought the ridges are still very barren they do have a lot more cover than last time we were here.

The roads are so twisty and turney,
and to think that two days later that piece of road was covered in snow and a few trees down to boot...trees...must have been the Derwent Bridge end as there are no trees here!!
