Day 499 Canberra

We only had the two nights to stay in Canberra so Richard and Sandra took us for the flying tour around the Capital. This shot is from Mt Stromlo . This whole area was devastated in the 2003 fires, which also claimed their home. It is still looking very bleak when you consider this was nearly all Pine Forest.
Some parts of the Observatory are still is in operation, with only a few buildings gutted by the fires.
Then onto the Telsta Tower and the views across the lake.
The fountain in the centre of the Lake Burley Griffin with Parliment House in the background.
We went to the War Memorial (from were this shot is taken) were they have some incredible displays. You could spend two days there and still not see everything...the films on the World War One Dog Fights and the World War Two "G" for George Lancaster's were well worth the viewing.
