We had had a fabulous time in the Atherton Tablelands but felt it was time to move on...we had passed the Chinese Temple and Garden area every day but had not had time to stop...so on the last morning we pulled up with Turtle in tow and checked it out.
When you look at these types of places, with their diverse culture and try to imagine how they adapted to the cultures around a gold field (or mining town), they are inspirational. The stories that you read about their ability to grow food for the local population, driven by the fact that the racial prejudice was so high that they were not allowed to mine themselves, so toiled on the land. Now we can look back and see that they actually had the right idea....many of these Chinese people ended up richer than the miners...they did not rely on luck....they relied on hard work!!
