Day 416 Along the Bank Cooktown

We must admit to being impressed with the whole concept that they have used for the banks along the Endeavour River. The presentation and material were exceptional. This picture above is actually a story line..it has the lot, the original story of the land, the arrival of Cook, the relief when he left....the Europeans arriving in force 100 years later, the Gold, the effects on the local communities..all in picture form....quite extraordinary.
Then there is the cannon...and you are right I did say the cannon. There was only one sent to Cooktown to defend Australia against the Russian..yep thats right the powers that be sent 1 Cannon (which was about 80 years old), 3 cannon balls, two rifles and one personnel who could fire the cannon.
The funny thing was there was a fountain/well close by and when they restored the said fountain, they found, guess what...yep three cannon balls and one human skull? Makes you wonder !!!
Blow this one up, double click on the picture,it really makes you wonder if Mr Rudd was right!
This is the local Bank of NSW...then Bank of Queensland...now a museum of not the main history ie Cook but of the local inhabitants and also the gold rush.
