Dampier

Whilst in Karratha, Irene had held onto a magnificent book
from the library on the Petroglyphs, you wouldn't believe
they're all over the peninsula & on the islands.

So a quick hamburger at Dampier & off we went
after a few clues on where to look.
Well we hit the jackpot the buggers were
everywhere if you know where to look.

People hunting turtles....

It really is remarkable country with these shattered rocks making up their palettes.

Another area overlooking the main harbour.

People hunting kangaroos

There was also some "standing stones" believed to be all put into this position,
Alison immediately thought of Stonehenge.......

Below looking at the monument to the "Flying Foam Massacre"

another of our whitemans'  travesties against the indigenous population.

And then heading across the salt pan on the way back to Karratha some "modern art"
I wonder if this will be here in 30,000 years ? I think not ! But a bit of fun none the less.....

Karratha

Onwards and upwards...we headed to Karratha and caught up with Irene, Phillip and Bridget.
Site One was available and John Brown was bearing down on us to do the PhNaClNg Show.
FoldaSola had come to town.

After a hard couple of days work for Stephen
and John we managed to get out and about.
On the road out to Cleverville we saw many wild flowers,
prodominantley Sturt Desert Peas and Mulla Mulla.

I feel a paining coming on again...but maybe for Joma this time!

Popped out to Cossack...saw some of the Art Show (got there too late!!)

Alison not in Gaol this time!!

Lovely spot. Shame you can't stop out here.
Port Samson for lunch and we scored a fish a beaut Gold Band Snapper straight off the trawler  that was for our supper at the Long residence.
Thanks again.

Quobba Station

We had heard of Quobba Station from many fellow travelers
and never had the opportunity to visit..
we were very happy in our little spot.
Sunsets and Whales and incredible coast line.

There is also the HMAS Sydney and HSK Kormoran memorial.
Having visited Geraldton  (with intentions to revisit on our way home) we had to go looking.

We only went for a drive out to Red Bluff...
not sure I would ever like to take Turtle there but a beaut place.
Red Bluff is the southern end of Ningaloo Reef..
wont be long and we will be on the other end!!!!

Amazing shell fossils in the rocks...
Mother Earth you are an incredible thing.

Had intended to do some fishing here but it was all
balloon fishing and we haven't got into that yet.
Did get to have fresh Tuna Suishi.

Kalbarri

Three nights at Kalbarri had to become two...
so a quick run around to some of the old favourites.

This Lookout on the way to Natures Window...I had not done before.
Stephen had done it with Richard and Sandra a couple of years ago
and thought it would be up my alley.

Interesting views and the walk was not to bad...just a couple of vertigo moments!!

Some of the wild flowers were out to and again the bird life was having a ball!!

Natures Window...minus people...Stephen went on his own and I just checked out the bird life.

Coalseam Park

On the Road Again.......
This time we head for Karratha first then drop back down to Exmouth.
First stop, another of those places that we have always meant to go to...
Coalseam,,,or in this case Coldseam.

This amazing place is well worth the stop..the bird life welll...theeee ...birddd..lifeee..
Where do we start!

Bottoms Up...Is this a picture for the future...
Instead of only overnighting we stayed for two nights..
this gave us lots of opportunities to check out the surrounds.

This place will be awash with flowers very shortly.

Just a few out now..this is the Blue China Orchid.

The fossils in the area are prolific...

...and in some areas you can still see the Coalseams.

The view from the Lookout...
we had a Perigine Falcon here but Stephen could not get a shot!

Our Site  (Site 12, Miners Camp)

Uninterupted views and great sunsets on both nights....but Coooooolllllldddd!!!!

Koonalda Homestead to Home

On the road again..... Stephen with his nose into wind is an awesome thing!!!!
No need to stop at the Head of the Bight as it was to early for the whales.
Had to stop for the coast line on the South Australia side of the boarder. More and more of these stops are either shutting or being de-humanised!

Then we found this great spot...
about 80k's from the border and 14 k's in on dirt to Koonalda Station.

This Homestead was on the old Nullarbor Road and was a fuel station....
the remaining dead cars were left out the back...huge car graveyard!!

The Homestead and the sheds were made from old sleepers ...
no one lives there anymore and the building is now Heritage listed.

Toby and Turtle settled right in and again we had a night on our own.
Pretty much a full moon and the bird life was out of this world!

Heading back to the main road we found these two!!

I'm going to attempt to paint this...wish me luck!

Last coastal shot as we leave the Nullarbor.
We stopped at Fraser Station for our last night..
then Stephen did a 800k drive for us to be home a day early!!!

Oh well next trip not that far away...

Bring it on!!
