Streaky Bay Museum

At Streaky Bay we had heard that the Museum had a section
on the amazing pioneer woman Daisy Bates.

She had dedicated much of her life to helping Aboriginal people.

We had both read about her previously and for Alison the follow up was a "must do".
Talk about varying opinions......
At one stage she was married to Breaker Morant.

The museum had a great collection of early "stuff" from the Eyre Peninsular.

Cars, Trucks & Agricultural Equipment.

Also a Doctors Surgery complete with early medical equipment.

And an early "Pine & Pug" house moved onto the site.

We don't realise how well we have it  today.

Visit to Venus Bay

We left Elliston & stopped at Venus Bay for a coffee with the Girls
as we had missed it o the previous trip.

It is a great spot that we will stay at next time.

I had to do a walk out onto the jetty for a few picies...

Just one of those photogenic spots !

Westall Loop and Point Labatt

On the Sunday Morning we awoke to a Sea Fog,
it was an awesome show of light.

After a lovely breakfast at Mocean a local cafe, we headed off to
Westall Loop for more of this spectacular coast.

From there it was a dive down to Point Labatt
to the largest mainland Sea Lion colony in S.A.

This is our third visit here and Alison was out counting...
in the end she spotted 80, more than we have seen previously.

The slept, they played & they discussed "family matters"

I couldn't resist the play of light in the shallow water around this guy....
double click on it & see if you agree.

A wide angle shot of the colony.

Haven't I seen this shot twice before?

Bloody Hell this car has seen some sights !!!

Our N.B.F's Sharon & Erica came for dinner we made
a fish pie with some of our Snapper,
some of their Salmon & some Large Prawns...yummo.

Streaky Bay

We arrived at Streaky Bay Caravan Park and Alison had
managed to jag us a beachfront site.
The weather was great so in to the shallows she went.....
what's that floating in the water????

Our neighbours David, Heather & Suzie have a van in storage up
here & have it delivered to the site
That's  the three of them going out to the boat.

Suzie is the most gorgeous Border Collie, and she loves going fishing.

More clouds....you'd think I've got a thing for them.

Son of Titanic finally got in the water..
Alison in her "figure t shirt" just the thing for a paddle.

After they got back it was fish cleaning & Pelican feeding time.

Not only did the Pelicans get a feed so did their lucky neighbours, thanks guys.

Locks Well

We had read about Locks Well as one of the best mainland
Salmon fishing beaches in S.A. As we have both had the Flu & had
spent the last week or so varying between Dopey & Asleep,
the prospect of 283 steps was too much....(each way)

So we considered this as a recce...
Not a bad spot for a picnic & toilets too!

What a spot....if the fishing is as good as the view we'll be back.

This lone fisherman & his wife were on the way back up....
in several stages I might add.

He only caught one reasonable sized Salmon but hey.....
Tomorrow we head on to Streaky Bay to a Beach Front site.
Somebody's got to do it !!!!!

On to Elliston

On the morning we moved on to Elliston I did a quick pre dawn foreshore walk,
hoping to get some of the above reflections of this very special part of the Eyre Peninsula.

I just loved the pink stream of reflected dawn light in this shot..

Alan & Alys were supposed to be with us for this part of the trip,
but sadly couldn't make it.
So the sight of a Trakkie next to a Trailcraft in the caravan park
made me think...the 2 right brands but the wrong vans !!!!

On to Elliston, a drive out to the lookout confirmed this
area has some of the best Limestone Cliffs in Australia !

Then around to the Cliff Top Drive to check out the Sculptures by the Sea.
These two are side by side & we had missed photographing them
last time as we had the Turtle on the back before we realised they were there.

These Dudes were new and some of the others we had seen previously had gone....

Whotchu lookin at ?

The Salmon Pole.

And the Salmon Heads... we don't recall this one either.

Coffin Bay

When we returned the wind was too strong to put out the awning,
but in the tree above the Technicolour Terrorists were putting on an acrobatic display.

The following day we again visited Golden Island Lookout.
Once again the seas were coming in from both sides, a spectacular sight !

A juvenile Pacific Gull soared past , as he flew above....

A mob or gaggle (?) of Cape Barren Geese just below the cliff.

Then out to the Coffin Bay Dunes.
Aboriginal legend tells that the large drifting sand dunes were named by the ancestral tribesmen
Marnpi & Tatta. A great fire came from the ocean & spread across the land endangering
the Aboriginal livelihood. Marnpi & Tatta decided to quench the fire by burying it,
and the great sand dunes resulted from this endeavour.

It was quite a run down that slope !!!!

Quite a site and a cacophony in the trees above.
An Australian Hobby in the tree was being harassed by a bunch of Galahs...
When he eventually gave in to their efforts they followed him screeching for quite a distance.

Up on the Slip Way was this old boat in for a clean up.

And what Coffin Bay is famous for rows & rows of Oyster Beds.
